Hermann Park
Just after its completion in 1995, this innovative play area was acclaimed as "the finest public playground in the country" by Dr. Joe Frost of the University of Texas, a leading child development and playground safety expert. Its design mainstreams physically challenged and able-bodied children in side-by-side play. The $1.3 million, eight acre public playground was dedicated to the children of Houston after three years of planning, fund-raising and construction. The play area includes play structures for children of all ages, a water spray area, pavilions and shade structures, and beautiful landscaping.
New improvements completed in 2002 include restroom facilities and a miniature train depot adjacent to the play area.
