Houston's Signature Public Golf Course
With $1.5 million in private fund-raising and the impassioned leadership of its Memorial Park Golf Course Task Force, the Houston Parks Board helped restore the glory of the grande dame of Houston golf courses. The course reopened in 1995 after 13 months of reconstruction involving $4.2 million in course improvements by the Houston Parks and Recreation Department. Private funds raised by the Houston Parks Board were used to expand the clubhouse and restaurant and establish a $150,000 building maintenance endowment.
