wiess park

Project just starting!

A rare and wonderful opportunity exists in Houston to redevelop Wiess Park, one of our city’s most hidden but centrally located green spaces.  The Houston Parks Board is beginning a significant renovation of this 16-acre, beautifully wooded park just across Loop 610 from Memorial Park. When the redevelopment of the Park is complete, it will be used for a variety of passive recreational activities, as well as connect it for the first time to Memorial Park and its immediate neighborhood.

The renovation of Wiess Park will be undertaken in stages. Our first priority is to simply bring this underutilized gem alive by adding some basic but very important amenities so that it can be used for exercise, especially jogging and walking. We hope to begin the construction of foot paths around the perimeter of the park in 2008.

After the relocation of the Houston Police Department Mounted Patrol and Canine Units in 2009, the transformation efforts will continue with restoration of the north end of the park including reforestation and site clean up.
